That this House expresses concern that despite great progress made in the treatment of rape victims in the criminal justice system, an estimated 85 per cent. of rapes are never reported to the police; notes with concern that when rapes are reported the conviction rate is below six per cent.; recognises that in order to encourage victims of rape to report the crime they are given confidence in the criminal justice system; and calls on the Government to take action to improve the way that this serious crime is dealt with.Sound's almost Cameroon from the old lefty doesn't it? However far from thinking she's about defect, I can't help but wonder if the plan is to see the motion go off the radar so that Cameron doesn't sign it, and then try to use it to embarrass him later.
I know, I know, it's all so terribly cynical and distrustful. But it's the timing and the content of the motion you see and the fact that I'm naturally suspicious of most things. Some might say that even politicians wouldn't play politics with such a serious issue, but I wouldn't put anything past any of them.
