If you ever needed just the smallest bit of evidence that the Liberal Democrats are not really very serious then you can guarantee that the discussions and motions at their conference will provide it to you. Take for example yesterday where they passed a motion calling for schools to develop policies to tackle bullying. Sounds perfectly reasonable I know, but at its core is the assumption that school's don't have bullying policies already, which obviously nonsense.
However, what is more bizarre, and frankly absurd, is that during the debate, the England Rugby captain, Phil Vickery, was called a bully because he tripped someone up deliberately in that full-contact sport being played on the world stage in France currently. According to the Times, Maureen De Beer, from Harrow, asked "What is the culture we transmit to children? If you look at our sports fields, we have recently had the England rugby captain. What do we see in the papers? Oh, he's going to miss a couple of matches".
It is not known at this point whether someone took her down at the knees.

Based on their performance, I think the whole England team should be suspended.

But look at her surname! She was clearly trying to nobble the England team before the game against the Springboks - now we can blame the Lib Dems for our piss-poor performance.
She's got a point there somethere.
I always used to think that the sight of the England football team captain, David Beckham, diving was a pretty shameful sight. Not a great role model to hold up for sprogs either.
My earlier memories of world cups gone by was of diving and dellberate fouls being carried out by the italian and argentinian teams while the english players played within the rules.
She was dump tackled and suffered a broken neck.
Try living in Romsey where our local Limp Dem MP, Sandra Gidley, believes that we should stop school kids playing competitive sport and teach them skipping!!
This from the same daft woman that felt that the police had bungled the armed raid at Chandlers Ford by shooting dead two of the armed robbers - one of whom happened to be holding a gun to a security guards head at the time.
I suppose she will now call the police bullies as well.
I am very pleased that so many bloggers are currently using rugby union (and specifically the Rugby World Cup competition) to make political points.
The grunt and groan, the cut and thrust, side stepping (of issues), the spinning out of the tackle, kicking into touch and the sheer brutality at times is a wonderful metaphor for party politics.
I think rugby should be taught in all schools so that we get a generation of youngsters who understand that life is tough but can still be enjoyable.
