Cash for consultations?

Still half-asleep really, but not so tired that I can't be in shock after reading this via this, the long and short of it is this. An NHS consultation on closing hospitals took place in a loaded room, where the non-medical attendees (i.e. ordinary folk) always voted in favour of Government policy.

At the end of the day, the medical staff were asked to leave, and then all the oridnary folk were allegedly given an envelope with £75 in cash in it. Now some might say that's bribery but I don't. I reckon it's a pay rate for Labour Party members (well above minimum wage I note).

Now some might brush this aside, however, assuming it is true, the consultation was attended by the Secretary of State for Health, Alan Johnson, and the Prime Minister, Gordon Brown. That's the leader of the DoH and the leader of the country at an consultation where cash was surreptiously handed out to those that attended and voted the right way.

That is mine, and your money being used to pay stooges to spend a day creating the false impression that there is support for controversial policies, and the Prime Minister himself is at the events. It sounds like something out of the Soviet Union.

As a member of a PCT informal patient consultation group, I can confirm that notices for meetings with some important characters in the Fit for the Future charade, sorry programme, are being sent out at the very last moment. This means that quite a few laypeople who know what they are talking about often have prior engagements and can't make the meetings.

But hey, the public have been invited to have their say, haven't they? Shame they couldn't make it!

In London, not only are the Health Trusts having to manage the Fit for the Future plans, they are also having to deal with Aru Darzi's mom-and-apple pie suggestions - well, why wouldn't the DoH run two similar processes at not quite the same time, proposing much of the same thing, but requiring lots of management time that might be better spent trying to run the Health Services?

Dizzy, if this is so and there's no reason to suppose it's not, then it's - well - awful.

awful. yes. but standard new labour stuff. before destroying services, get the people being destroyed to look like they agree.

the only answer is to get out a leaflet campaign on the streets in all affected towns and cities, organised by the people who want to save their hospitals, pointing out how people are being deceived by government and the media.

We all know this is a disgrace. Is it a disgrace too far?

What will WE do about it beyond reading about it on the internet?

Maybe we can get something done on campaigntv.org???

Seriously, if anyone more able than me has any ideas about what we could do about this, count me in. Is there at least a petition up and running?

Sounds like Labour Filth™ are using one of the Rand corporations old techniques to distort democracy. Interesting that they ascribe minders. See the article below and it all makes sense. Know your enemy.

The only people given enough warning and who would have had the time are Labour Party researchers. As they were paid in cash for coming up with the "right" answers they can never be traced. Look forward to seeing the same faces at each meeting. (notice the Downing Street video of the event doesn't show the lay participants.
