I'm just curious to know what people think, but for those not aware, Keith Vaz MP has, in recent days, been campaigning to get BNP related group banned on Facebook. Now, besides the general issue with banning groups that say the wrong words, there is of course an argument for excluding the BNP - or at least parts of them who openly advocate violence on racial grounds - for the ignorant and bigoted people they are.
However, the question I have is why is Keith Vaz not calling for Stalinist, Maoist, and Trotskyite groups on Facebook to be banned? These groups often advocate violence on class grounds. The destruction of the state etc etc. Seems to me that there is a bit of weird standards going on somewhat, no?
Actually, in general, why is it OK for someone to wear a t-shirt with Stalin on it, but not with Hitler? I mean, if those that campaign against the BNP genuinely believe that prejudice is wrong, why is it not wrong when it comes down to prejudice on the basis of class? Why is it that the liquidation of kulaks, the Cultural Revolution, the Khmer Rouge all seem to get overlooked in favour of the Holocaust?
Don't get me wrong here, I'm not saying Hitler was a nice guy, far from it, he was a bastard. What I find weird is that you never hear anyone on the Left mentioning the bastards they produced in the 20th Century that slaughtered tens of million. Take Castro, the Labour Party has a "Labour Friends of Cuba" group for Christ's sake!
This question has bugged me ever since I was at University where I would hear the Right vilified across the board, whilst I was taught that the Left had just been misunderstood and that Soviet Russia and Mao's China were essentially outcomes from acts of honourable intention.
So basically back to Facebook, where's the consistency?

Vaz should stick to dribbling over the likes of Shetty, instead of trying to form it into comprehensible language.
Thank you for pointing out the illogical conclusions of the left wing.
I would like to be a fly on the wall when they discuss this at Facebook.
The trouble is that if they ban any political group then they effectively become politicised. Then every group with an interest will start demanding that any group that opposes their interest should be curtailed or banned.
It is in Facebook's own interests to not comply with the request.
I am sure that lipid vat of ghee Vaz would not object to someone in Facebook wearing a Ché t-shirt. Ché Guevara was as nasty and vicious as fellow lefty 'idealists' Mao, Stalin and Hitler. Perhaps he didn't murder as many people, but he was a hands-on kind of guy and murdered many of them personally, with his own gun. Including 12-year old boys.
But he was an "idealist".
It simply demonstrates the intellectual hypocrisy at the heart of much leftist thinking.
Not to mention the intellectual brankruptcy several Labour MPs.
I used to have a bosun who was a covert member of the Leith Communist Party. He could never give me a reasonable excuse for all the executions and show trials taking place in the old USSR.
The only answer he could come up with was that they were crimminals, or traitors to the revolution.
However as pointed out Vaz's idea will be taking us into dangerous waters.
But bloody typical of ZaNuLabor always sticking their noses into areas that dont really concern them.
I think blanket propaganda was and remains the invention of lefties - they misuse the "there'sno smole without fire" statment to generate LOTS of smoke, so the fires are assumed.
As an American boy in post-war Vienna occupied by the 4 nations' troups, I regularly had the commie line scrawled on walls "Ami geh heim" - American go home - shouted at me. A lie repeated often enough becomes a truth.
Factually I see less left-wing people as simply more decent, they choose not to descend to those levels of abuse, so the great unwashed only hears one type of propaganda.
When the lefties were all demanding an end to apartheid, I wondered why no one was making equal claims against Russia. ANswer - cus it was lefties doing all the shouting.

National Socialism IS leftwing!
It's one of their biggest lies.
Anticitizenone suggests that the Nazis are left wing. That would be why someone or other somewhere (I'll find the link later) was wittering about the impact of BNP standing on the TORY vote??? Tories are left wing really shock!
Anyway, I'm not sure there are any active cells of stalinists (cells of stalinists?) or maoists plotting assassination of any prime ministers or mortar attacking any places of worship or even actually carrying out a nail bomb attack in Soho.
The danger from the Nazi BNP is clearly far more "real and present" than any threat from loony left.
I would add "sad but true" here but will not as I might then be tarred as a left terrorist rather than an ironist if I did. Banned from facebook even?
Incidentally facebook STILL don't allow "socialist" or "social democrat" or "Labour" under politics, though fair's fair they don't have fascist, eurosceptic, redwoodite, communist or lots of other categories either.
"...I'm not sure there are any active cells of stalinists (cells of stalinists?) or maoists plotting assassination of any prime ministers or mortar attacking any places of worship.."
Not sure there's anyone from the BNP doing it either...unless you are getting your knickers in a twist over the hapless Cottage & Jackson.
Not very 'real' or 'present', were they?
impact of BNP standing on the TORY vote???
Funny I was under the impression that Margaret Hodge was complaining that the BNP stole the Labour vote.
I suggest that ACO thinks Nazis are left wing because (a) they are collectivist (b) they believed in the state control (not ownership) of industry (c) many of their leading lights claimed to be influenced by Marx.
Hilter was a leftist
Marx was a racist.
