Jon Snow gets his wrist slapped by the gallery?

It looked very much like Jon Snow on Channel 4 News may have got a slap from the gallery during last night's programme. When introducing a VT piece on the end of Operation Banner in Nothern ireland he referred to it as the end of of the British Army's "occupation" of the province.

As soon as the VT finished he quickly corrected himself, and apologised profusely for making the mistake, or, as most people would call it, a freudian slip.

When an army is occupying a foreign land, what do you call it?

How would you describe the Chinese People's Liberation Army stationing in Tibet?

There is an official narrative you see. The CORRECT view of things an' all that. Like "we are in Iraq to 'fight the enemies of freedom' " - or put a bit more bluntly "to help the poor bloody natives" etc etc.

ANY MSM reporter who steps outside that narrative - or has the temerity to seriously question it - will not remain an MSM reporter for long. Don't expect objectivity from John or any of the others - It's more than his JOGSWORTH - give the man one of those Esther Rantzen hats - he deserves it.

Guido if only it was as simple as that!

I think most English, Welsh and Scottish people would like to see a united Ireland - pity the Unionists in NI don't agree...

I can't stand Jon Snow's fat,smug, self-regarding face.

I'm sure many Catholics consider it an occupation, but nevertheless newsreaders should provide just the facts; It's the army of the UK in UK territory and therefore it's not an occupation. Calling it an occupation is disseminating opinion and not newsreading. If he'd said 'what many people have considered to be an occupation' that would be bias through omission (of widely held opposing views) but at least factually correct.

Please do correct me if I'm wrong.

Yep, the south of Ireland should be re-united with the UK.

Guido Fawkes Esq. seems confused as to what a 'foreign land' is.

He seems to be under the impression that the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland doesn't include, er, Northern Ireland.

But I suppose the opinions of people who don't actually live in Northern Ireland are more important than the majority of its actual inhabitants who seem quite happy with their present status.

Classic FM news is quite good.

I think one must not make the mistake of assuming that c4 news is on a par with the BBC.

c4 news has a political bias. Everyone knows that. Everyone knows that they are scrupulously leftie and liberal. They are also the channel most likely to speak to far right politicians and people who express what are to some an unpalatable opinion.

They differ from the BBC in this, in that the BBC's editorial stance is to pretend that alternatives to their liberal humanist position do not exist.

Jon Snow is publicly a leftie and unapologetic, and does not hide it.

The real crims are the BBC who hide under a fake cloak of impartiality.

I know which channel I would go to for the truth about an issue - c4. At least I know where they are coming from.

I do wonder about calling it the 'British Army' anyhow. It's the UK army (Northern Ireland not being a part of Great Britain), as rickytshirt points out.

As for a United Ireland, I don't think that most British people 'want' to see it. They'd probably prefer to let the people in Northern Ireland decide whether they wanted to leave the UK (it would be a somewhat scummy thing to split off an element of our country against the will of what is currently a narrowish majority opposed to it happening) and, I guess, the people of the Republic of Ireland to decide whether they wanted a newly non-UK Northern Ireland (a foregone conclusion at the moment, I suspect, whatever the current state of the Irish Constitution).
