Riots at the G8 - how retro!

As ever, the G8 "protests" turned violent and to be fair I wouldn't expect anything less. The fascistic tendency of the extreme Left always gravitates towards violent. The bizarre thing of course is that because they frame their arguments within Marxian dialetics, they're able to project their view as being in somewhere "honourable", because they're all about fighting injustice and oppression. The fact that the ends of their arguments imply totalitarian authority and the oppression of individual liberty is quaintly ignored for some reason.

Still, this is not the only inconsistency that exists amongst the radical anti-globalisation trotskyite environmentalist movement. On the one hand - before they start rioting - they say they're fighting against globalisation and also against the imposition of values on the poorest nations by the richest nations. To satisfy their environmentalism they then argue for the wiping out of all debt and the imposition of technology on developing nations to stop them burning coal. *

Next we're told that we in the First World should stop buying our produce and food from abroad. The miles that our food travel is killing the planet don't you know? We should all buy only locally sourced food and stop importing. Some of them even suggest that we should impose massive tax tariffs on imports to "encourage" people not to buy them. We are asked to ignore the fact that the developing nations that they say we're oppressing are in many cases fundamentally reliant on food exports. "They can all sell to their own people" is the naive response that ignores the reality of corruption and failed politics in many of these places. **

Next up we have the USA, the one nation that is the Great Satan to these groups. It is very simple, she will never be able to do enough to not receive criticism from these groups. No matter what Bush or his successor may ever say on the subject of the environment and/or climate change, it will be met with derision and criticism. Even if she agreed to do exactly what the enviro-fundamentalist asked there would still be criticism from the enviro-fundamentalists. ***

It's all well and good for these people to think that they're trying to save us all and the world, but the reality is that if we followed them there would be mass starvation across the world, stagflation would be a popular word again, and life would be pretty rubbish for everyone. Oh yes, and you can bet that it still wouldn't be enough!

* This imposition of values on the developing nations is not the same as the evil capitalists imposition of values.
** In other words, they hate us for oppressing developing nations with debt, but equally they have no qualms about creating famine and destroying the economy of developing nations in the name of saving the planet.
*** Please don't mention China, she is in no way comparable to the evil USA.

Shit. I thought those people were right wing. Like the ones doing the same thing in Caracas over Radio Crackers TV.
