Did Charlie Falconer upset the landlord?

Not sure what other people might think. but it seems to me that the Ministry of Justice (fromerly the DCA) may need to have some sort of rent review on what it is paying out for offices in the Department.

From 2002 to 2005 it was paying out, for just the Department not its executive agencies, an average of approximately £6.7m each year on rent. This may sound a lot but when you think about rent prices up and down the country and the number of offices its probably quite reasonable.

However, in 2005-06 the figure more than tripled to just shy of £21.4m, and by the end fo the last tax year was £23.8m. Now I'm pretty sure the Department didn't triple in size in 2005-06 so what did they do that pissed off the landlords so much?

Maybe property was sold and then rented? If so, there's the amusement of wondering whether the DoJ will get a deposit back if there are too many stains on the carpets etc.
