According to this morning's Observer, Gordon Brown is going to dump Chequers as a weekend retreat in order to put 2clear blue water" between himself and Blair. I don't get it, what does Chequers have to do with Blair specifically. The residence, at the foot of Coombe Hill in Buckinghamshire, has been used as a Prime Ministerial retreat for a century, it's hardly a "Blair" thing.
Having said this, not having the PM there regularly will certainly make Ellesborough and Butlers Cross residents along with dog walkers happy. There is little more annoying than going for a walk in the area and being stopped at every corner by some plod with a gun demanding what you're doing.

This is more to do with his hatred of the countryside, with it's 'nasty' Tory tendencies.
This is more to do with being a twat! Part of the political this and that is being able to entertain other PMs and Presidents somewhere away from the hurly burly of Whitehall etc. This is another one of those, this'll prove I'm really in touch with what the people want, moves by Broon. He's so out of touch, like the rest of them, that he's forgotten what is right and wrong. He of course has no trouble with letting the Smith Institute use No.11 as their political home from home.
Pfft, he'll be in power for such a short time the dust covers will have barely got dirty before we have a new PM, who will use it.
Dustcovers? Unless he sells it he will be adding to the waste that he and his type like. If it is not to be used, surely it should be sold or rented out. The Buckinghamshire campus of the QEII convention centre?
