Pretty sensational headline over at Iain's blog if it is correct. Apparently. Andy Coulson, the former editor of the News of the World is to become the Director fo Communications for the Conservative Party. Given what seems like appaling news management around the grammar school issue it might not be before time.
However, what does it mean for the Conservative Party as a whole? We've seen what happens when a tabloid-style editor gets a foothold in political parties already with Alastair Campbell.

There is something very familiar about all this - the heir to Blair is in place, now the heir to Campbell is there. All we need now is a dour Scot and the Tories are fit for government.
Not a fan or reader of the NoW, is Andy Coulson rated as a PR guru, and will he be seen as a "positive" edition to the CCHQ payroll in those terms?
I do not read the News of the World. But going on what I observe on Sunday morning in a Luton supermarket, Coulson's readership consists of shaven-headed fat-bellied louts who belch frequently, unattractive women of the 44DD variety wearing woolly jogging pants, and furtive loners in England football shirts. And now this cocky, chameleon of an OE , with the rich wife, has taken on board the ex-editor of Murdoch's prurient and sneaky rag which trawls the gutters for smirking, narrow-minded, foul-mouthed, oafs. Where are Cameron's standards? In a grubby guttersnipe's oily cash register it seems! We must kick out this creepy hypocrite and replace him with someone the general public can trust. What about Anne Widdicombe? Now there's a thought.
Yeah gods, is David trying even harder to do a Blair by roping in a tabloid hack with an Essex-tinge to be his attack-dog... sorry, spokesman.
