Lib Dems in a mess over Academy Schools

Where exactly do the Lib Dems stand on Academy Schools? On the one hand you have Sarah Teather, the Lib Dem Education spokesperson, seemingly saying that academy schools are wrong, whilst on the other, you have a Lib Dem councillor in Bognor Regis positively praising their introduction.

Perhaps Nich Starling can let me know what the policy actually is, because I cannot for the life of me find one on their Lib Dem official site. I notice also that the Lib Dems in Sheffield are campaigning against the academy schools with the line that it is "privatisation by the back door" for education, which is patently bollocks. It's all very, "for it before I was against it" Kerryesque.

For Lib Dems wouldn't the "policy" depend entirely on which "academy" and where?

I think the party is not a supporter of academy schools. I thank you for asking me, but I cannot be sure as I am not totally in touch with party policy. it is going through a thorough review, so perhaps that is why there is a lack of information.

My own personal iew is that I dislike them.

As for claiking the Lib Dems campaign agsint them in some places and then support them elsewhere. I guess you could argue the same of tories who oppose speed cameras nationally but support them in their own council wards when they are put near a school.
