Labour's YouTube channel hits the papers

The Telegraph has this morning picked up on the creation of the Labour Party YouTube channel which I posted about on Thursday. They have also commented on how little the videos have been viewed, I can't imagine where they got that idea from?

What is interesting to me is how the line is "Blair launches Labour YouTube channel" when, in fact, the channel has been around for some time now. If people will recall, I posted about David Miliband's videos - which appear on his own channel and the Labour Party one - back in February which is also when the Labour Party channel was actually set up.

Tim Montgomerie from ConservativeHome is quoted in the article saying that what will be interesting is seeing the video replies the Labour Party receive. I concur with Tim on that one. Some people may say that it is an act of bravery and a desire to be transparent that has led them to use YouTube rather than set up their own dedicated site. I'd say it's an act of stupidity though because they lack control and moderation.

Had they gone the WebCameron route the videos would still end up being posted on YouTube, but they wouldn't have been posted in an official Labour capacity. Any video responses, good or bad, would have largely been ignored by the mainstream, but now they will be watched consistently by the press as they are responses to official postings. I don't think the channel will last.

Dizzy, you are always one step ahead. I can't access the Telegraph story from your link, the only YouTube there is the otters swimming away.

Did you see the French video clips on my post yesterday on the presidential election? They are hilarious.

Iain has given me one of his nifty video cameras and I hope to do a few of these posts soon.

Have a happy Easter.

hmm I've left a couple of text responses, by no means obscene or defamatory, which have not appeared. I guess they have a strict comment moderation policy of 'If you don't agree with us, it won't appear'

No more than I expected from Nu Lab really.

There's a thread over at Webcameron on Labour's youtube channel. Apparantly negative comments are being censored by Labour - I didn't realise that was possible, I had thought YouTube was an open forum.
