Benn campaign website launches, but does he have backbench support?

You know how it is with buses how you wait for ages then two come along at once, well the same is true for some party political website. In a quick follow-on from the news I broke last Thursday about Labour's new YouTube channel we finally have Hilary Benn's campaign website.

As far as the grassroots is concerned, and assuming their graph is accurate, Benn has probably the highest support for the job. However, I've also heard that he may not actually have anywhere near the necessary 44 signatures for his campaign from the PLP.

Rumour has it that in order to solve that problem he is desperately trying to appeal to local constituency parties to force their MPs to nominate him if the CLP collectively support him. How long will it be before an MP - who is supposed to be a representative not a delegate - breaks cover and says they were forced to sign the nomination form or face deselection?

Many MPs will have had their affirmative ballots BEFORE they have to nominate. The idea that any of the DL candidates or the CLPs can monster MPs into a nomination over their re-selection is absolutely crazy.
