Could the leaker be charged as well?

It occurs to me, if the CPS and Guido are right - and Downing Street were responsible for the leak of the email to the BBC in the hope of creating a "trial by media" scenario - wouldn't that leak itself constitute an attempt to pervert the course of justice? Could the leaker, if exposed, be subject to charges too?

Sorry to be pedantic but this is unclear:

Could the leaker find themselves charged as well?

Who is them? Do you mean himself or herself? i don't understand the new English rules.

I posted this question on the Guardian G.U.Talk.

Who has the most to gain from this leak?.

It would seem that there are some at the BBC who are still sympathetic to Nu-Labour and by assisting in the leak may be entering the conspiracy.

The importance of this rather bizarre escapade is that it shows certain groups are not helping the police.

The other significant aspect is that depite clear signals that some charges will be made, against who we dont know yet, but those previously arrested must be favourites there no resignations.

This means he will NOT resign when those charges are made. This is an eventuality that must have been considered by those in and around number 10, they obviously think they can tough it out.

What I want to know is WHAT forced his agreement to step down early? It cant have been public opinion, peerages, respecting his promise to Brown or disastrous foreign policy. Al of those are significantly more pressing today.

Why will the Labour Party not eject him? Why has there been no public pressure from Senior Party figures? or from those within the party?

Any candidate for teh DPM has nothing to lose and everything to gain by publicly calling for him to go?

Why doesnt a senior Brownite resign (if it works they are out of a job for 2 days, win public respect and usher in teh Brown premiership) if they fail they are going to be out of a job in a doomed cabinet from a doomed party?

Possibly Dizzy, but I doubt it. We can speculate about the reasons for the leak and I suspect the police and cps are as well, proving it is another matter.

I do home Yates get his man and/or woman though!

Themself would surely have been fine for a singular leaker of either or unknown gender, themselves for plural leakers, probably excusable for a singular one.

Rather than being some new English this usage goes at least as far back as Shakespeare. PC week once published a letter from myself correcting Tony Tyler who was being a pedant himself on this very question.

A shibboleth for a slow news day.
