Remember at the beginning of January there was a big announcement about how the government was scrapping 551 websites as part of its "Transformational Government Strategy"? At the time they said we were all going to use super site gateways like DirectGov instead and would save the public lots of unnecessary waste of money. Sadly it seems Gordon Brown didn't get the memo.
At the beginning of this month he launched the 2007 Comprehensive Spending Review website. Yes, really. Honestly. I'm not kidding. A website designed clearly to make you want to stick needles in your eyes for sure.
What I particularly liked is the panel on the right which says "Where is taxpayers' money spent?". I bet they don't mention that just over £75,000 was spent on designing and hosting it and it's managed to attract no more than about 255 a day since launch. That's about £12 per hit for anyone who is wondering.
It's quite poetic really.
