Clearly an important "Government" announcement

The image below is a press release just issued by the Forestry Commission through the Government News Network. I'm not sure what to say really other than to ask whether it is really appropriate for taxpayers money to be used to promote Travis' forthcoming UK tour?

Are they getting commission on ticket sales or something?

I imagine that the Forestry Commission make money from the Thetford Forest gig, one way or another, and are promoting it for that reason. If they get a fraction of the gate, I guess that it makes sense.

Come to America, where taxpayers' money has been used to secretly pay pundits to say nice things about government policies as if they are expressing their own opinions (that was, at least, illegal).

If they were just promoting the concerts in their forests, like they did last week, then fine. But they are promoting the entire tour including how to buy tickets at each venue.

FIVE of the shows are in forests, including four that you have pruned from the listings. It is normal protocol not to announce later dates until the first national tour is sold out. In this case announcing the concerts may be the price to the Forestry of making an announcement at this early stage.

Travis are playing at the Forestry Commission's rather splendid outdoor venue in Thetford Forest on the 8th June.

I think the Forestry commission probably like Travis because in their songs of remorse and lost love they are a Scot`s pine....gettit !!!arf arf
Does anyone know why we still have a Forestry Commission. Wasn`t it to safeguard our stock of timber for primitive deep mining in the Second World war? Can`t we get rid of it ? I `m sure lots of trees would grow without help and if its profitable then someone will do it.

It is certainly very ugly and poor for the diversity of flora and fauna. I worry so about the little creatures....

Chris, I didn't prune anything.. i took a screenshot. As for protocol, announcing the Forest dates would be fine. Announcing dates for Hammersmith Appolo is, in my view, an incorrect use of taxpayers money. Simple as that really.

The Forestry Commission was formed in 1919 to replace all that timber felled for the war effort, amongst other things.

If the deal basically was to promote the lot, and doing that makes more money than not doing that (through a better deal) or if the FC believe that by creating a harmonious relationship with the promotors which will lead to more dough in the future, I don't really have a problem with it so far as uses of taxpayers money are concerned. That's just business in the evil capitalist world that I love so much, as a blackhearted conservative.

Whether the often-murky intersection of government offices and private concerns disguises other skulduggery here, though, I don't know. If Capita go into concertn promotion, that would be a different matter...
