Who dropped the ball?

Only a quick observation, but as we now know, evidence has been presented at the trial of the failed 21/7 bombings which shows the defendents on a Msulim training camp in the Lake District. The filming was apparently carried out by an undercover police team 14 months prior to the bombing.

What's odd is why no one in the press or media seems to be asking why these guys were allegedly able to make it on to trains with bombs if they had been under surveillance already and were known to the security services? Somebody, somewhere, dropped a ball on this one surely?

What also has been forgotten is that these "alleged" 21/7 bombers were also pictured with the 7/7 bombers at the same place.

How did they never put 2 & 2 together?

You identify 2,000 people worth watching. To watch each one potentially takes 6 police officers working 60 hour shifts per week. 12,000 police officers on hefty overtime and with lots of equipment and lots of running costs - kebabs, informer tip fees, coffee, kebabs, pies, coffee, i-spy book of terrorists etc etc.

Even when the Tories put 2p on the tax to fund loads of prisons and 10,000 extra police on stake out duty - is that really going to happen - there will probably have to be priorities and decisions.

And that's only the half of it.

The thing about 24/7 surveillance is that all the audio, video, bin contents, interviews etc need to be processed, logged, reviewed, transcribed possibly, analysed. Then do lists produced etc etc.
