Quango promises to do something Tuesday?

I've just discovered yet another quango I've never heard of called "Cycling England" whose mission is apparently to get us all cycling. Out of boredom I had a look at their annual report which was posted to the website on the 25th July 2005.

If you take a look and go to page 8 for the table of accounts you will be presented with an image (click image for large version) which is barely legible. Never fear though as you can see it says quite clearly "Correction will be made to Tuesday to this image".

Which Tuesday we do not know, but it will be on a Tuesday rest assured. I wait with baited breath!
Note: For anyone wondering, the budget for Cycling England in 2006/07 is £5m.

Another "Doh!" from some quangobot.

OK, so they managed to spend every last penny of their budget. Yet no word on how effective they have been in their mission to have more people cycling, more safely and more often?

Wonder if they have anything to do with http://www.worldnakedbikeride.org/uk/london/ (Office Friendly)

Was set up following Steven Norris' national cycling strategy, which promised a certain amount of action (96). Labour assured that if they won in 97, the cycling strategy would be safe: the work would go on.

They lied. No really.

This is a gem - I'd missed this one. I particularly like the descriptions of the Board Members:

"Dave Merrett
(local transport) - A York City Councillor from 1982, he led successive York Councils on transport matters 1988 – 2002, culminating in York being judged to be England’s best cycling city in 2003."

Right: so this chap spends 14 yrs in charge of bikes in York, and the first year he stands down, his town wins an award.
