The LSE Identity Project which famously slated the Government's proposals for the Identity Card system on security and cost grounds has responded today to John Reid's pre-xmas U-turn on the plans. In essence the message from the LSE Project appears to be that they're pleased the Government has accepted the original plans were stupid, but that the new plans are not much better and no one trusts them.
One of the mentors to the project, and director of Privacy International, Simon Davies even went so far as to say as to say that the "scheme has become poisoned inside and outside Whitehall." Doesn't mince his words there does he?
