they are made by Shure, thats why they are so bloody expensive. Shure make microphones that are used the world over (especially the SM58, Beta 58, and SM57), they are the market leaders in that particular industry, and of course if you make the best microphones then earphones area logical progression.
For musicians, and music purists they are probably worth it, for anyone else they aren't.
I own Shure headphones. Paid £60 for them. Theres one model thats near £300. I can't go back to the £25 sony models. The difference in quality is staggering. How on earth people retain the white craptacular headphones that come with ipods is beyond me. in fact, why people buy apple ipods in the first place is beyond me too.
