Has "Tory TV" made its mark on Central Office?

Why has the line on Bernard Jenkin's front bench departure changed over night? Yesterday afternoon he'd been fired, this morning he resigned. What on earth is going on I wonder?

The story being played out by the press is that it comes down to a comment Jenkins is alleged to have made about the Whitham selection panel not picking an Asian A-lister. I have no idea whether the comment was really made, but it's the second "racism" story in as many days for the candidate list.

This said there is another possibility. Could it be that the "discussion" over the A-list between Anne Widdicombe and Jenkin on 18 Doughty Street Talk TV has an impact? After all, Jenkin did get so totally owned by Widdicombe it must have made excruiatingly painful television for people like Francis Maude et al.

Rumour has it that the interview didn't really go down very well in CCHQ, and it was also said to be the main subject of gossip at the Target Seat conference this past weekend. This makes me wonder, has so-called "Tory TV" claimed it's first scalp?
For those that missed it, here's Widdicombe versus Jenkin

The expression being held by the lady sitting next to him really says it all...

Pretty good analysis. The only problem is that CCHQ aren't changing the policy, just changing the personnel.

Anyone who attempts to tangle with Widders is asking for trouble.

Owned indeed.

And what's Jenkins doing in my seat?

Dizzy: I'm not convinced this was quite the impact Tim, Iain and Stephan had in mind when they launched 18DS.

Andrew W: that's a crap prediction. I'll bet you anything you like that you will continue to ask reasonable questions, and lots of people will still tell you you're talking crap....

Agreed

Bernard was sacked for being a nudist. He was discriminated against because of his love of naturism. He's always been open about his hobby and has made it clear on several occasions that he has nothing to hide. I wish him well. And look forward to meeting him again next summer.

Andrew - he bungled that question in particular. Nice one.

I'm not really sure that anyone at CCO really cares about 18DS. It's very niche.
