As some may know from Ellee's blog, two days ago the Russian investigative journalist, Anna Politkovskaya, was gunned down in a lift in her apartment building in Moscow in what appears to have been a contract killing. What the mainstream media hasn't really mentioned though is that, coincidentally, her assasination took place on Vladimir Putin's birthday. Am I making an accusation? No. Wouldn't dream of it. Merely pointing something out.
If you get a chance I strongly suggest reading Putin's Russia by Politkovskaya. Be warned it is a thoroughly depressing read.
