Six down, only a few to go

Well what an interesting day it's been. We've thus far witnessed six people leave the Government including the sacking resignation of former Whip, Junior Defence Minister, and alleged blogger, Tom Watson - I note the current top post on his blog is from August 28th and is titled "Political future vs political past", how very prophetic of him.

Anyways, another blogger by the name of Iain Dale has said that there is a rumour going round the corridors of Westminster that another, slightly more middle ranking Minister is set to resign as well. He's also noted the comparisons between these events and the events surrounding Thatcher's downfall. Blair, like Thatcher, is about to go on a foreign trip which may just give the plotters the time they need.

The real question is whether the plotters have what it takes to finish the task off? If Brown is involved then I'm guessing probably not. It's becoming increasingly clear that Brown simply doesn't have the "cojones" to deliver the fatal strike. He could've done it at least twice in the last year and he hasn't. This time round Caesar survived the Ides of March because Brutus lacked the guts.

Of course, Blair will go, and perhaps he'll go sooner than the date floated for next year. But the person that delivers the killer blow doesn't look likely to be Brown on past performance, and that, arguably sums up what a Brown Premiership will really be like when it comes. Weak and ineffectual.
