Piper endorses Livingstone for Labour leadership

Gordon Brown will undoubtedly be stewing this morning at the news that the mighty Bob Piper, councillor for Sandwell [ed - where?], has entered the Labour civil war by promoting another potential leadership candidate. Last night on this very blog, the high profile Labour mover and shaker Piper said - in a clearly coded message - that he "would rather [Ken] was contesting an entirely different election next Spring [than London]".

This is the second Labour heavyweight to enter the fray in the "Stop Gordon" campaign in as many days. Friends of Gordon Brown are said to be "seriously concerned" at the intervention of such an influential man as Piper [ed - shurely shome mishtake?]. There have also been reports that this weekend will see a number of lesser individuals than Piper appearing on national television to pass comment on the same subject. A leaked email I've received says that Frank Dobson will get angry on GMTV and say "it's my ball I'm going home".

A most enjoyable week would be complete with a win by the Blues today at Goodison therebye ensuring an entertaining Sunday morning- with the press adding more salt to labour wounds -and TV showing them as a bunch of self centred hypocrits interested only in themselves

Yes, nothing better than watching the reds (of both football and politics) losing.

From what we know of Bob, he'll probably be prepared to see the formation of a 'Popular Front' with Galloway, even though the Robespierre of Bethnal Green is doubtless deemed insufficiently ideologically sound.
