Iran calls for the "elimination" of Israel again

Nothing will stoke the fire a little more in the Middle East than the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadineja taking another opportunity to call for the "elimination" of Israel like he did yesterday. He also cited Britain directly as being responsible and in effect has signalled that Hezbollah's future direction is likely to extend beyond the borders of Lebanon.

Today, Julian Brazier MP has written to the Telegraph and joined the Tories using the term "disproportionate" in relation to Israel. According Brazier, "by using such disproportionate force, Israel has escalated the conflict exactly as Damascus and Teheran wished".

Brazier is absolutely right to say that Damascus and Tehran have orchestrated the situation, however, the intensity of their response is irrelevant to that point. The problem is that no matter what Israel had chosen to do they would face the charges of "disproportion". Frankly, the fact Israel have not gone for Damascus and Teheran shows just how restrained they have indeed been.

Slightly radical for me I know, but perhaps it's time we did something about the head of the snake rather than prodding it's tail in Lebanon?

I would think the best way of dealing with Iran now would be black ops rather than a direct confrontation. Mad Inejad is clearly not entirely sane, but sending in the 101st Airborne and 2 Para is more likely to rally Iranians to the 'national' cause rather than light the touch paper for a revolution.

However, if Iran gets any closer to nuclear weapons, bring on Osiraq II.
