Job Centre gives out NI numbers to suspected illegals

This morning The Times is reporting the guidance notes in at the Job Centre advises staff to issue National Insurance numbers even if they think or know the immigration status of the requester is dodgy. The staff then apparently have to tell the Immigration Directorate, who, as you've probably already guess, does nothing.
Annex 1: Applicant in employment & has falsified a genuine Immigration document. Where DWP is satisfied as to the individual’s identity, a NINO would be issued in this situation even if we have suspicions around his immigration status.
The problems at the Home Office are becoming truly bizarre. Lucky for John Reid that he's still so fresh faced in the job that he can ride the storm and do the good Soviet thing and blame everything on his predecessors - although he will most likely blame the Tories.
